Augmented Reality: Stockholm

Hi! In this piece, I'll discuss a recently developed technology that, hopefully, will soon be widely used in language teaching: Augmented Reality (AR). What exactly is Augmented Reality? Augmented Reality (AR) is a technology that allows real-world materials to be utilized to display films, photos, and 3D models in a 3D environment. My friend Selda Kaya and I collaborated on a worksheet using AR. This worksheet is about a trip to Stockholm, and you can see tourist attractions and cultural places! In addition, students can access AR and 360° things in the worksheet by scanning QR codes. We used Canva to design worksheets. . We also instructed students to watch a 360° youtube video. For the post homework, we want them to create a postcard which they will send their family. Generally, it was not as simple as I previously stated. We encountered some difficulties. The texture issue is one of them. Some of the AR goods we chose turned out to be white (colorless) and/or of poor quality. F...

WebQuest and Farewell

Hi, today I've completed our final task which is QuestGarden. I am going to talk about it and say my last words.  Firstly, I want to talk about WebQuest. It is an interactive platform enabling teachers to create process-based materials for students. It includes phases such as Introduction-Task-Process and Evaluation. Our task was to prepare a WebQuest in which students will follow a guideline to learn and study. I worked with Selda Kaya, you can reach her website by clicking here. We firstly decided on a topic which was saving nature. We then brainstormed and reasoned about the process. Briefly, it was challenging at first but with my friend's help and a lot of give-and-take, we were able to do it. You can click the link below and reach my Webquest. CLICK HERE TO SEE MY WEBQUEST PAGE. As I said before, this is my last post and shortly I will talk about it in general.  1- What are the strengths and weaknesses of the course? One of the greatest contributions of this course to me...

Flipped Approach

Hello! Today, I will talk about Flipped Approach. Let's begin by defining a flipped classroom. Students learn at home and practice at school in a flipped classroom. The teacher makes a video for the targeted topic and distributes it to the pupils so that they can learn about it whenever they like! This method allows teachers to save a lot of time in class, allowing them to spend more time at school practicing the material rather than just teaching it. On the other side, this time savings benefit students rather than teachers. For beginners, making a flipped video may be difficult. Let us share our experiences! For the high school prep-class, our topic was "Comparative, Superlative, and Equality." We assumed it would be simpler. Despite some difficulties, it was enjoyable to be a part of this flipped video.  Let's talk about what we created with İrem First, we used Canva to build a presentation paper. Then, using Microsoft Video Editing, we record our voices to inser...

Corpus based teaching experience

Hi everyone, welcome to my blog.  Today I am going to talk about an activity I designed using the corpus.  Firstly, let me talk about the corpus. Corpus is a big resource containing the use of words, phrases, collocations, and other types of words. You can find plenty of sentences using corpora and you can search for anything you want.  Our assignment was to prepare a lesson/activity in which the students would use corpus. Actually, they were to use the corpus for solving the activities and learning.  Now, I am going to talk about my experience while designing a corpus-based teaching activity. Before designing my activity, I needed to think about the students and their needs. Because corpus-based activities are new for the students, they may be discouraged easily. That's why the introduction and purpose shouldn't be ignored. I took these criteria into account and gave importance to visuals. However, it was demanding to find a suitable worksheet. It took me an ...

Digital Timeline

Hi, I have started to write again after a long time. Today's topic is related to creating a Digital Timeline. Our teacher has assigned us to create a digital timeline about the history of technology in language learning.  As it is known, language learning and teaching is our field and we try to improve ourselves as EFL teachers. Firstly we should catch up with educational technology. Integrating websites and infographics into your lesson has crucial importance while lecturing. As I said before, today we dealt with creating a digital timeline. First of all, it was fantastic and enjoyable because designing something is wonderful for me. We had to read the related article in our coursebook then we were to summarize it. Creating a timeline is a little bit demanding and tedious because you do more than one task at the same time such as summarising, inserting information, using google sheet, and checking it. However, when you have finished the project, you understand it is worthwh...

SEE YOU

Hi again. This post is going to be my final one. So, I am sad👴 Before letting me go, I want to talk about my personal experiences through the Educational Technologies class. How did you view technology in English language teaching before you took this course?     Obviously, I am more experienced and knowledgeable about technology now. Generally, I have been using technology for doing my homework, researching, and working mostly. After I have started to take this class, my perspective on technology has changed. Firstly, I learned that there are many useful tools for learners, especially English learners. Secondly, I was able to improve my digital skills which I will use throughout my life. And finally, I improve myself in terms of group working. How this course has contributed to your learning about and understanding of technology integration in ELT?         As I said, the Internet is like a sea in which there are numerous resources for learning and te...

MY DIGITAL STORYTELLING EXPERIENCE

Hello again. Good to see you here. Now I'm going to tell you about perhaps one of the most difficult but favorite activities of mine.   This task is called digitalstorytelling. As the name suggests, it is the task of telling a story. But there are also other aspects to the focus on. These should not be ignored. Vocalizing, story production, technical work and so on.   This assignment was to be done in groups and in my group consisted of  Baran Tuaç and Tuvana Kutar. First we set a story and then we got to work. Baran Tuaç did the video editing job because he was capable of doing technical works.   We divided the story into pieces and voiced each of us. Then we combined them into a single piece and supported them with images and videos.   This task has enabled me to improve in digital. I developed myself on design platforms like Canva. At the same time, you improve your team skills by doing this group homework.   I would like these types of ...
